LEVELS OF TEACHING

From level to level.

We know exactly what you will learn and when you will learn it.

Elementary

Level A1

What will you know?
A person at A1 level understands and uses everyday expressions and formulates simple sentences. They can introduce themselves and others, ask questions about their interlocutor and answer similar questions. They can communicate with a partner if he or she speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help with the language.

What can you pass?

  • Fit in Deutsch 1 – for young people between 10 and 16 years old.
  • Start Deutsch 1 – intended for adults. It confirms the basic knowledge of German.

Level A2

What will you know?
A person at A2 level understands sentences and often uses expressions related to everyday life. They communicate in simple and routine situations. They can describe in simple sentences their own background, education and immediate surroundings, and things related to everyday life.

What can you pass?

  • Fit in Deutsch 1 – for young people between 10 and 16 years old.
  • Start Deutsch 1 – intended for adults. It confirms the knowledge of German at A2 level.

Intermediate

Level B1

​What will you know?
A person at B1 level understands the main points of an utterance if standard language is used and if a conversation is related to the person’s work, school, hobby etc. They can handle most travel situations. They can speak briefly on subjects they are familiar with or interested in.

What can you pass?

  • Goethe Zertifikat B1 – valued by employers as a confirmation of practical, basic knowledge of German in everyday communication.

Level B1+

Due to the large amount of material that needs to be mastered before starting B2 level, when planning your course we suggest considering classes at B1+ level.
This is a level that reviews, repeats and develops the skills acquired at level B1.

Level B1+ replaces previous levels B2.1 and B2.2 from the standard course.

Level B1+ is not a stand-alone level and therefore there is no dedicated examination for it.

Level B2

What will you know?
A person at B2 level understands the main content of more difficult texts on specific and abstract subjects. They understand professional discussions concerning their own industry. Their communication is so fluent and spontaneous that a normal conversation with native speakers is possible without much effort for both parties. They express their thoughts clearly and in detail on a wide range of topics.

What can you pass?

  • Goethe Zertifikat B2 – it is a strong bargaining chip when applying for a job, where language knowledge at B2 level is required.

Advanced

Level C1

What will you know?
A person at C1 level understands a wide range of more difficult and longer statements, understands the meaning of complex and sophisticated texts. They skilfully use their extensive vocabulary in social and professional life, at school and at university. They can speak clearly and in detail on complex subjects, maintaining the correct sentence structure.

What can you pass?

  • Goethe Zertifikat C1 – recognised by employers all over the world. It opens the door to some universities in German-speaking countries.

Level C2

What will you know?
A person at C2 level easily understands practically everything they read and hear. They can spontaneously express their thoughts, fluently and accurately explain tiny differences in meaning regarding more complex subjects.

What can you pass?

  • Goethe Zertifikat C2 Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom – it is a highly regarded diploma in professional life that proves excellent skills in the German language. Holders of a C2 diploma are exempt from the German language entrance exam at German universities.
